Monday Poetry Train - Vendre son âme

Mais il est inutile
It's no use
De se perdre
To lost your soul
Ou de vendre son âme
Or to sell it
pour avoir droit
TO have the right
Au goût des lèvres
To taste the lips
De la personne
Of the person
Que tu aimes
You love
Parce qu'au fond
Because after all
Ce n'est pas toi
It would not be you
Qu'elle aimera
That he/she will love
Mais la personne
But the person
Que le diable
That the devil
lui présentera
Will present him/her

What a great poem. I like the lines:

    pour avoir droit
    TO have the right
    Au goût des lèvres
    To taste the lips
    De la personne
    Of the person
    Que tu aimes
    You love

So many times people want someone to return feelings that may or may not be there. And I love how you've ended it - with the poem's narrator recognizing that she might be a weapon of temptation.

Now what were you saying about someone seeing me in Halifax?
